Have you ever heard of the term ”middling”? It’s a strategy I use when the situtation is right for it. With “middling” you can drastically increase your sports bet winnings by profiting from both sides of the betting action.

So how does this all work? It all starts with carefully monitoring the movement of the betting lines and being able to find a situation where betting both sides becomes a fairly safe bet.

This betting strategy can be used in major sports like the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB and college sports. To form an example using the NBA and you have a matchup of the New York Knicks and Orlando Magic and suppose the first posted line is: Knicks -4, Magic + 4.

At first glance the smart bet says that the Knicks are considered a good value to bet on at -4. Often times when it gets closer to the game the the bookmaker decides that he is taking a lot of action on the favored Knicks, and to even things up the bookmarket decides to move the spread to Knicks -5.5 and the Magic to +5.5. Ultimately the lines maker wants to attract more action on the Magic side of the bet and by slowing down the amount of action he is receiving on the Knicks.

If the odds remain at this level then the best bet would be to go in again and bet the Magic at +5.5. This is an example of “middling” the spread. If the Knicks go on to win by 5 points you win your Knicks bet at -4 and win your Magic bet  at +5.

A good sports bettor will be hitting his “middles” more often than not and as a result be getting terrific value while keeping the downside at a very low level. of hitting a ‘middle’.
